1999: Directing a film for channel 4 in Manchester. Living in a rented apartment. Wake up with coughing fit. Left side of body racked. Fall to floor. Crawl to get phone and call Production office. PA drives me to A&E. Diagnois: heart attack at 43 years old. Call partner’s school to let her know the situation. Understandably shocked and very concerned for me and our young family. 8 weeks later recovering in Birmingham with two stents in my left hand artery to keep it open, I make a card to send to friends and colleagues.
